Forthcoming Service Changes (Tenders). Updated 2nd November

Last updated: 20th October (30, 231, 491, 327, D6, D8, N550, N551, 389/399 + pending) . Please scroll to the bottom of this page to find out routes that are due to be announced within the next 2 months, which has been updated on 2nd August.

If the route specified is gaining vehicles that haven't worked the route before, whether on a contract change/renewal, or merely an upgrade following displacement of other vehicles, at the end of the bullet point text will be highlighted in this colour, making it easier for you to plan your days out covering the latest service changes.

A contract change indicates that a new operator is taking over the route, following a tender award.

A contract renewal indicates that the existing operator has been successful in continuing operation of a route, following a tender award. New buses may/may not be ordered, dependant on the tender specification.

If a change in routeing takes place, text will be highlighted in this colour at the end

      1. Hi, are there any other routes awaiting announcement not listed here, for example, the gap between june 2018 and december 2019 just filled with the relatively few routes mentioned or is there a whole raft of routes that will be filled in later as the years go on?

        2. Hi, the 214 tender was only announced so far in advance because it's scheduled to be operated with electric buses, which take much longer to produce then normal vehicles.

        1. The route will be renewed in 2019, as it will be using electric vehicles they will take significantly longer to produce then normal, so no I didn't make a mistake and please check your facts before trying to correct me, it's not very professional!

      4. For the record, MG garage is called 'Morden Wharf' not North Greenwich.

        1. None of those routes are having their contracts renewed soon, but watch this space and maybe within a year a couple of these routes might be up for tender.

      6. Yeah I agree, Stagecoach have had some of those routes for ages, its quite boring living in Catford with the same bus operators for the last 8 years or so

        1. Indeed, the main reason why they've retained so much work is the strategical position of Catford garage, so many routes pass near there so it's almost inevitable that they will place successful bids. Most of those routes do have other competition from the likes of Go-Ahead London, but lots of their garages are pretty full anyway.

        2. the 208 will have a new operator by late 2019 due to the fact they had a 2 year extension in summer 2017. The 136 might get an ITT in February 2018 onward which would mean potential new companies running it from late 2019 also.

      7. yeah but the vehicles are getting old and fair enough their are the Enviro400 MMC on the double decker's (47 sometimes 75 54 136 and 199) but there needs to be more like 96 in plumsteads garage have wright Gemini's eclipse 3's but catford needs them.

        1. Unfortunately MMCs are pretty much guaranteed as Stagecoach have a deal with ADL which means they get their buses cheaper. Nevertheless, anything is possible and a batch of Gemini 3's could be ordered again, alas it's unlikely.

      8. There should be a Stagecoach route with Scania N250UD ADL E200 MMCs in London!

      9. E400 MMCs, my mistake sorry!

Also, it is annoying that no bus companies in London have been ordering Mercedes-Benz Citaros.

        ReplyDelete
        Replies
        1. Unfortunately the reason why the short Citaros haven't been ordered recently is due to the lack of stop-start technology that TFL require, so they have been banned. Stagecoach actually ordered them for the 380 and 167 but had to cancel their order.

          Delete
        2. But Citaros can actually be stop start (they are available in Voith as well, which offers a stop start version) but by the looks of it, the reason why they haven't been ordering Citaros is because they are very expensive to buy.

Also, there should be a bus route in London with Alexander Dennis Enviro400 MMC bodied Scania N250UD!

          Delete
        3. Hmmm, that could easily be another factor. I forgot to mention that the Voith version did come out recently earlier.

Whilst the latter type you mentioned would be a pleasure, it's probably unlikely unless a new operator enters the London market as there would need to be all sorts of new training etc etc

          Delete
        4. A Scania Enviro400 won’t ever appear in London because they don’t have a back window, which I believe is a TfL requirement. Omnicities on a Scania chassis do have a back window (just!) so they’re allowed. Stagecoach do like Scanias though, which is probably why they’ve still kept on most of their Scania’s novated from Macquarie, albeit on a different body. The electric buses do buck the back window rule though, probably because there is no other physical room to put the batteries other than at the back and zero emissions would come as a higher priority than a back window!
